A&C Community Spotlight: 1000 Islands Makers Market

Calvin and I headed out to the 1000 Islands Makers Market this past Thursday to check out the amazing vendors in town. We were not disappointed to attend and find the Firehall Theatre buzzing with activity.

It may have been that half the town showed up (you know which half) so we are just going to share the parts we loved best:

Favourite Booth: Kingston Cottage Macrame

KCM wowed us with their amazing rig of wire, driftwood, and twinkling fairy lights. And I loved the macramed owl! You couldn't miss this booth right at the entrance of the show.

Team Player Award: The Ye11ow

The team player award goes to Dawn Middleton of The Ye11ow whose total travel time may have exceeded the length of the market itself. We're glad she made the effort though because this woman throws a mean bowl. Check out some of her stuff here:

Dawn is an OCAD alum and has an MFA in Sculpture and Ceramic Arts (swoon). And don't let me forget that she said she does custom work- all you have to do is give her a shout and she'll see what she can do. You can get her details at

Before we move on, just another look at her table, courtesy of new pal and event organizer, Emily Prout of Arrow it Forward:

A&C Fan Club: Vanderzee Jewellery

Calvin and I loved Kirstin from Vanderzee Jewelry, a badass lady from Brockville who is both a trained carpenter AND silversmith. While this isn't her first rodeo, we liked her chill vibes and salt-of-the-earth modesty because it juxtaposed nicely to her fantastic line of jewelry.

So big round of applause to Lisa Robichaud of Nature's Tonic and Emily Prout of Arrow it Forward for all their hard work in bringing such an amazing event to Gananoque for the 3rd time. Nicely done, ladies. We did pester them for some of their own thoughts on the event,

"We were so pleased with how our third 1000 Islands Makers Market went, seeing happy vendors and happy customers is what it's all about! Lisa and I started this event because we had a vision of a different type of market, to slow down the shopping experience, make it a night out and everyone has been so receptive to it. For me personally, our first event in June of last year ignited a passion for making and I could never go back! I was so inspired by the creativity and the overall passion of the artisans. We are already planning our next event where we know we will make more new friends....and do more shopping!"- Emily Prout, Arrow it Forward
